The following history is transcribed from a document found with the instruments:
“These dental tools were made by Dr. George F. Crawford and used by him in his practice at La Harp[e], Illinois, from 1845–1852 when he crossed the plains to Oregon and settled in L[y]nn, Colorado. He tanned the leather used in the dental case. Dr. Crawford was born in Virginia, January 1, 1818, and died at Corvallis, Oregon, December 17, 1897.”
